TPU-coated 600D polyester
600D is the denier — the thread weight. It is the point where fabric stops feeling like a bag liner and starts feeling like gear.
The TPU coating is bonded to the weave, not sprayed onto the surface. Sprayed finishes wear off at the fold lines within a season. Bonded coating goes when the fabric goes.
High-frequency welded seams
A stitch hole is a leak. That is the whole argument.
Most pouches in this price range are sewn, then sold as water-resistant on the strength of the fabric alone. Every needle penetration is a path for water. Welding fuses the material instead, so the seam is as sealed as the panel either side of it.
YKK rain-resistant zipper
The zipper is the first thing to fail on a cheap pouch, and the first place water gets in.
YKK costs more than the unbranded alternative and it is the one component we would not substitute. In heavy rain, keep the zipper end facing down — water finds zippers before it finds fabric.
